THE SPECIAL WOOL CARE GUIDE
This year, knitwear is making its debut at Nénés!
Made with care and love in Italy from wool (partly recycled), alpaca and recycled polyamide, this range has been created to last.
To keep it in great condition for as long as possible, we’ve put together a care guide for you.
1. Limit washing
First of all, it is important to keep in mind that wool is a delicate fiber. Washing it too often will damage it.
Our first tip is to limit washes to just a few times per year.
Good news: being a hollow fiber, wool naturally wicks away moisture and odors. So, you can air it out after each wear, outdoors and out of direct sunlight.
To eliminate odors, you can:
- lightly spray it with a mixture of water and white vinegar
- or place it in your bathroom while you take a hot shower. The steam helps relax the fibers and eliminate odors. A clothes steamer will also work perfectly!
2. Opt for hand washing
The best method for washing a wool sweater is to do it by hand:
- Fill a basin with cold or lukewarm water, never hot.
- Use a special wool or delicate fiber detergent.
- Gently submerge the sweater and let it soak for 5 to 10 minutes without rubbing or twisting the fabric.
- Rinse with cold water, without wringing, to avoid distorting the fibers.
If you choose to wash it in a machine, select the wool program with cold water and no spinning.
3. Drying
To maintain the shape of your sweater, be careful how you dry your sweater.
- Blot out excess water by gently wrapping the sweater in a clean towel .
- Lay it flat on a dry towel, away from direct sunlight and sources of excessive heat.
- Never hang it on a hanger or on a wire, the wool could relax under the weight of the water.
And to prevent pilling...
A natural phenomenon on wool fibers, pilling can be reduced with a few tips:
- Wash your sweater inside out to minimize friction.
- Avoid repetitive rubbing by wearing bags or other accessories that could damage the surface of the wool or get caught in it.
- To remove small pills, use a lint razor or a soft brush specially designed for wool.
We hope you find these tips for caring for your sweaters helpful.
Taking care of them is not only a way to extend their lifespan, but also a way to consume more responsibly. Careful maintenance will keep your favorites soft, cozy, and ready to wear year after year!
